Student Experiences
Do you want to experience the real world of African wildlife conservation, see animal habits never seen before and research projects behind the scenes, relax in pristine wilderness, and at the same time have fun doing so? De-stress, get reconnected with nature, or just need a break from a mundane lifestyle?

We will enable you to do all this, by exposing you to a once in a lifetime experience designed by leading wildlife veterinarian Dr Douw Grobler and wildlife expert, JJ van Altena. The Student Experience will be presented in various Game reserves and Parks within Southern Africa offering a unique wildlife-based experience whilst exploring conservation and wildlife translocation projects. No one experience will be the same, as venues and projects will change all the time, making longer stays worthwhile and exciting!

Your mission will be different every day, as the main idea and focus of this experience is to supply you with an intimate knowledge of various conservation projects in South Africa. Monitoring and exploring the behaviour of various species like elephant, lion, white rhino and other large and small mammals when the opportunities arise. Projects will take place all over South Africa, exposing you to our diverse country’s splendour and beauty of many wildlife areas.

You will be learnt various management techniques, such as identifying plants, birds and animals to utilizing research skills such as radio-tracking animals. By radio-tracking specific animals, guests will also be able to gain an intimate and close-up understanding for that animal, learn more about its habits, behaviour and movements and gain an understanding in the field of telemetry. These close-up experiences will also offer ideal situations for photographic enthusiasts exposing you to the diverse fauna of Southern Africa.

The designer, Dr. Grobler, has more than 20 years of field and teaching experience in the conservation world of Africa and also in parts of Europe and the United States. Dr. Grobler has also contributed internationally to wildlife conservation in various ways. The project is also proud to include JJ van Altena, well known elephant specialist and 14 year partner of Dr Grobler to add value to this incredible experience. Through their input and the beauty of Southern Africa, Catchco will ensure that you will live your African dream.
